Where Does Aloe Vera Work?
Because of its nutritional and immunomodulating properties, Aloe Vera helps firstly to prevent injury to epithelial tissues and if damaged, promotes healing. Our largest epithelium (layer of cells) is our skin, but also included is the gut lining, bronchial tubes and genital tract. This explains how Aloe Vera works not only on damaged skin, but also on an inflamed bowel or in asthma.
Aloe Vera is not a panacea for all ills and there
is no magic about it! It works in only two areas: epithelial tissue
and the immune system, as previously mentioned. Benefits have been
reported in the following areas:
- Various skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis, ulcers, burns, acne and even stings and bites.
- Bowel Disorders including diverticulitis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
- Conditions resulting from a disordered immune system such as arthritis, asthma, ME and Lupus.
Aloe Vera has a complimentary role to play in the management of various conditions. It is important however, that people should always seek their doctor's advice when diagnosis is in doubt or a condition does not improve. Self Diagnosis can be extremely dangerous as many serious conditions can mimic simpler ones.
